Nissan Debuts 370Z NISMO at 2013 Chicago Auto Show

2014 Nissan 370Z NISMOEarlier this week at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, Nissan revealed the 370Z NISMO for 2014 with new colors, a new body kit, and improved interior features. The NISMO version of the 370Z provides a more intense and involving driving experience thanks to engine and suspension tuning. A tighter and more responsive feel may not be ideal for all drivers, but for those who want unmatched performance, the 370Z NISMO is one of the best options on the market.

2014 Nissan 370Z NISMO RAYSNew features on the 2014 370Z NISMO really help it to stand out compared to prior years and non-NISMO 370Zs. A new body kit features a sleek and more aerodynamic front fascia. Ground effects and the NISMO spoiler are painted in a contrasting dark gray that matches with the super lightweight, dark grey, Nissan-branded 19-inch RAYS wheels made from forged aluminum-alloy. Inside, an Alcantara lined steering wheel sits in front of a centrally positioned, red NISMO tachometer.

After upgrades and tuning, the 3.7-liter V6 makes 350 horsepower and 276 lb-ft of torque. This comes out to 18 more hp and 6 more lb-ft compared to a non-NISMO coupe.

Plug In America National Plug In Day

With the interest of increasing global acceptance and knowledge about electric vehicles, Plug In America, along with the Electric Auto Association and the Sierra Club, has arranged to hold the second annual National Plug In Day. This second annual event has the purpose of educating interested individuals about EVs and putting them together with drivers and advocates who have answers and experience. It will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23rd.

After a super successful National Plug In Day last October, the group has recruited 60 cities to take part in the second installment. At each city’s Plug In celebration, activities and scheduling are lead by local drivers of electric vehicles and advocates of alternative fuels. At these events, interested visitors will be able to learn and experience more about EVs than they could by researching or going on one short test drive.  Activities include ride-alongs, information stands tailgating and parades, and more. While the primary focus is education, visitors are sure to have a lot of fun riding along with EV owners in their cars, test driving available EVs, having questions answered, and attending demonstrations.

The event is not sponsored or endorsed by any company or specific model of EV and all electric vehicles are welcome, including some crazy home-built concoctions. Common sightings at events like this include the Nissan LEAF, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Toyota Prius and Prius Plug-In, Chevy Volt, and even the Tesla Roadster. However, these are hardly the only vehicles you are likely to see. Who knows who or what you will run into.

There is one event within 75 miles of Clinton, North Carolina. At Nissan of Clinton, we highly encourage anyone interested to go check out the Plug In Day Celebration at Durham, NC.

Nissan Heisman House

Nissan’s new ad campaign, Nissan Heisman House, targets football fans by featuring Heisman Trophy winners and Nissan vehicles in commercials that can make anyone laugh. The football stars encounter rivalry and personal space issues that seem all too believable. The commercials feature 12 of the trophy winners, including two-time winner Archie Griffin and “the rook” RG3. It’s always fun to see these guys try their hand at commercials and Nissan gets to showcase vehicles like the Nissan LEAF, Altima, Pathfinder, Titan, and 370Z.

Nissan Juke Midnight Edition

Since its introduction in 2010, the Nissan Juke has always been a very unique car. There just isn’t anything else on the road quite like it. Optional AWD and a peppy, turbocharged 4-cylinder make it very fun to drive and really quite sporty. On the other hand, small SUV like dimensions and a hatchback setup make it very practical as well. Nobody knows whether to classify it as a small crossover, or a large, sporty hatchback. Either way, people really seem to love it and it sure stands out in a crowd!

But if you are the type of person that likes to stand out just a little bit more, Nissan is introducing the Midnight Edition package for 2013. This package is expected to start at around $1200 and adds some sporty and aggressive features to the 2013 Juke. Included in this package are unique, 17 inch wheels painted in black, black mirror covers, and a black rear spoiler. Purchasing this package is actually expected to be $500 cheaper than buying all of the parts individually. And more good news… it can be applied to any trim level for the 2013 Juke!

Project 370Z Videos All In One Place

The recent Project 370Z campaign by Nissan has recently wrapped up and the final video has just been released. In this project, Nissan put together a custom 370Z according to votes from fans.  Stage one included engine and handling upgrades like a twin turbo kit, adjustable coil-over springs, a big brake kit, and a cat-back exhaust. In stage two, they tuned the Z to achieve maximum output from the upgrades. They also did some work on the interior to make it sportier and more custom. In stage three, the custom 370Z was revealed to the public. Watch all three short videos below showing the work as it was completed.

2013 Nissan Maxima: A Cut Above

Originally, the Nissan Maxima was intended to be a sporty, four-door alternative for cars like the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. However, over time, the Maxima has matured where others have stagnated. The 2013 Nissan Maxima currently sits in a class of its own, somewhere between imported, mid-sized four doors and full-fledged European sports sedans. With more grunt and a better driving feel than its Asian import competition and a more attractive price than its European counterparts, it is a hard to define vehicle that has really improved the marketplace.

A 3.5 liter V6 puts a respectable 290 horsepower through the front wheels. This, combined with one of Nissan’s quality automatic CVT gearboxes makes for a very confident and willing car! Ask this sporty four-door to make a pass and it simply gets up to speed without any fuss at all. Even though it may not be a true rear-wheel drive sports sedan, the Maxima is quite aggressive and fun to drive when the roads get curvy.

With styling, standard features and options that normally only come in much more expensive vehicles, the 2013 Nissan Maxima is a great option for anyone who wants a comfortable ride that is also quick and sure-footed.

Portugal’s Police LEAFs

The Nissan LEAF is definitely gaining popularity with drivers over here in the United States. As more and more people warm to the idea of a means of transportation that relies entirely upon an electric drivetrain, we are seeing a good number of these EVs out on the road. It really does seem like the LEAF does a good job of transporting most people on their everyday routes. The real world driving range of around 73 miles as tested by the EPA is more than enough to carry the average person along their daily commute or to go run a few quick errands. A real sign of how well the car is being received though can be seen in Portugal.

The Portuguese police are implementing eight of these all-electric hatchbacks into their fleet of around 5,000 vehicles. While these cars are scheduled for use in the Safe School Program and for other light work like parking duty, they are also fully outfitted to “perform other police duties at any time” if they need to. As you can see in the pictures, these Nissan LEAFs have been outfitted with police decals and blue sirens. One of the key benefits of the LEAF as a police vehicle is its near silent operation; allowing it to arrive undetected at the scene of a crime. The country’s strong network of EV charging stations is what really makes this idea feasible.

If you ever find yourself speeding in Portugal, look out for these LEAF police cruisers. Until then, if you want to check out the Nissan LEAF you can stop by Nissan of Clinton to see one in person and learn more!

Nissan Design Team Takes a Field Trip to Hang Out with the Blue Angels

Nissan isn’t messing around when it comes to research and development for its sports cars! When most companies try to improve a car, they just look at their competition’s products and try to copy what they see. If they are trying really hard, they may go to the Formula 1 circuit in search of some technology or aerodynamic wizardry. But when Nissan wants to improve its already impressive selection of sports cars like the Maxima, 370Z, and GT-R, they look elsewhere for inspiration!

Nissan wanted to improve the integration of instrumentation in the dash for their future vehicles. So where did they go? A team of designers from Nissan went to Pensacola, FL to talk with some of the best pilots in the world about interacting with gauges, controls, and technology in high stress situations. I don’t know about you, but I would be willing to take a few pointers from the Blue Angels if they were willing to help out.

I wouldn’t expect to see an altimeter or a joystick control in the next GT-R, but something like a projected Heads-Up-Display and repositioned gauges and controls might be in the works! Check out the video below for a look at these lucky designers’ trips to talk with the Blue Angels pilots. And if you just need to get into a sporty car, check out our selection of sports cars in our inventory here at Nissan of Clinton!
