Original GT Academy Winner Completes the Nürburgring 24 Hour Race in a Nissan GT-R

For those of you who do not know, GT Academy is a chance for the best Gran Turismo players to become real-life race drivers by completing a series of video game based challenges. The top 16 players from around the country get to participate in a week long “boot camp” where they undergo a series of physical and mental challenges. This includes them having the opportunity to drive a real Nissan car to practice and prove their real-life driving skills. They are then eliminated until only one remains. For the overall winner of the competition, the prize is a spot on a racing team to compete in a real race along with all the training and licensing that is required for preparation.

Nissan’s original GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordonez, of the 2008 competition has been quite successful since becoming a race driver. His most recent accomplishment was completing the Nürburgring 24 Hours in a Nissan GT-R. He and his teammate, Tobias Schulze, finished 30th overall and 1st in the SP8T class. It really goes to show just how impressive the car is. Competing against some of the world’s top racing cars, this production car is able to hold its own. Being a production car, it means that you can own one just like the GT-R driven by Lucas and Tobias. Often known as the world’s most inexpensive supercar, it is fairly affordable considering the performance you are getting for your dollar. Or if you just want to drive a few of Nissan’s most exciting sports cars, keep an eye out for the next GT Academy.
